- A notary public is a person of proven integrity appointed by the State to serve the public as an impartial witness to the signing of documents. Notaries are authorized in most states to take acknowledgements, administer oaths and affirmations, and perform other notarial acts.

- Why become a notary public?
- Notaries public are needed in real estate, banking, law firms, and other professions. Every day thousands of documents (for example powers of attorney, wills, and deeds) require a notary public signature and seal in order to be recorded. In addition, becoming a notary public will enable you to enhance your job resume and generate additional income by working as a mobile notary or a signing agent. By becoming a notary, you will also be more valuable to your employer, your business customers, and your community.
Course registration, duration, and access
- Do I have to be a commissioned notary in order to register for the course?
- You can take the course at any time whether you are a commissioned notary or you are planning to become a notary public. However, we recommend that you take the online training course prior to applying to become a notary, or at least at the same time you apply to become a notary so that you know your notarial duties and responsibilities, minimize your liability, and avoid any unauthorized notarial acts.
- What are the steps to sign up for a notary course?
- Go to www.becomeanotarypublic.com, click on the notary course you desire to take, and simply follow the registration instructions.
- When can I start the online notary course?
- You can start the online notary course as soon as you complete your registration and submit payment online.
- How many hours does it take to complete the course?
- Most courses are designed to be completed in three hours if taken in one sitting.
- Do I have to complete the entire course in one sitting?
- No; that’s one of the great advantages of our Online Notary Training Course. You can log out at any time and return to the course when you are ready to proceed. You have 30 days to complete the course and print your Certificate of Completion.
- How do I access the course?
- Course access is available at https://www.becomeanotarypublic.com/nc/student-login/. Simply log in with the username and the password you created at registration.
- Do I need to log out when exiting the course?
- Yes, the logout feature is recommended when you are ready to exit the course. This prevents unauthorized use by another party.
- Do I have to start all over every time I access the course or I close my web browser?
- No, the course is conveniently programmed to remember the last page you accessed on your last visit to the site and will take you there when you login again.
- Once I complete the course and print my Certification of Completion, can I continue to access the course?
- No. At the time you print your Certificate of Completion, you will be considered a course graduate and will no longer need access to the course.
Payments, refunds, discounts, and extensions
- Which credit cards do you accept?
- We accept all major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express) as well as debit cards that bear the MasterCard or Visa logo.
- Can I pay for the course with a check?
- Yes, you can; however, you cannot access the course until we receive and process your payment.
- Is paying by credit card online safe?

- We offer a money-back guarantee as long as you request a refund in writing via email within 24 hours of registration and our log files show that you have not viewed more than the first two chapters.
- Where is my receipt/registration confirmation email?
- If you cannot find your confirmation email, check your junk mail or spam folder. To prevent our emails from being filtered out, add sales@usnotaries.com to your address book or safe email list.
- Can I register more than one student?
- Yes. Our system allows an administrator to register several students at the same time.
- Do you offer group discounts?
- Yes. For large groups of three or more, contact our customer service at sales@usnotaries.com or call us at 1-800-721-2663.
- How do I get an extension?
- If you fall behind in completing the course, email us at sales@usnotaries.com to request an extension. You do not have to state a reason for the extension.
Course highlights
- Are there any tests in the course?
- Yes, there are non-graded tests at the end of some chapters and a final exam at the completion of the course to enable you to achieve the maximum benefit.
- Is each chapter timed?
- Yes. There is a timer that will start at the beginning of each page. You are not allowed to proceed to the next page until the required time for each page is completed.
- What are the advantages to taking an online notary course?
- Cost: An online notary course is less expensive than attending a classroom notary course.
Convenience: The course is available online 24/7. You can study at your own pace from the convenience of your home or office.

Certificate of completion
- Once I complete the course, will I be awarded a course Certificate of Completion?
- Yes. You will be able to print a Certificate of Completion suitable for framing at the completion of the course.
- How do I reprint the course Certificate of Completion?
- Login to your account and click on the reprint button located next to the course name that you completed in order to reprint a copy of your course Certificate of Completion. We recommend saving a copy of the certificate to your computer for future use.
- How do I correct my name on my notary course certificate?
- For your security, our system does not allow you to edit your name once you complete registration. Please email us at sales@usnotaries.com or call us at 1-800-721-2663 for such requests.
Privacy and Security
- Will my email address be shared with a third party?
- The American Association of Notaries complies fully with the federal CAN-SPAM Act of 2003. We will not share, sell, rent, swap, or authorize any third party to use your email address for commercial purposes without your permission.

Updating Your Personal Profile and Password
- Can I edit my personal profile or change my password?
- Yes; log on with your username, click on ‘my profile’ to update your information, and then click on the save button. For security reasons we do not allow students to edit their names. Please call or email for such requests.
- What if I forget my username and password?
- It is strongly recommended that you choose a username and password that will be very simple and easy for you to remember, but difficult for another to guess. If you are unable to remember your password, go to https://www.becomeanotarypublic.com/nc/student-login/?m=password and enter the email address you used to register for the course and click on the submit button to receive a new password. If you forget both your username and your password, you will need to call us at 800-721-2663.
- Why am I unable to edit my name?
- For security reasons, we do not allow students to edit their names. Please call or email us for such requests.
Course troubleshooting
- What if I am having difficulty viewing the course content or opening the course?
- Try using a different browser. If that doesn’t work, logout and then log back in or exit the program, close all programs and restart your computer. Try to access the course again. If this doesn’t solve the problem, email us at sales@usnotaries.com or call our customer service experts at 1-800-721-2663 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Central Standard Time.
- What software or hardware do I need in order to register for an online course and what are the system requirements?
- In order to take our online programs, you must have access to a computer and the Internet. You can access the program contents from any web-enabled computer. You don’t have to use the same computer to log-in to the program every time. We recommend that you have the latest version of your favorite web browser.
- Can I use a Mac computer?
- Yes, you can use a Mac computer for this program.
- What happens if I lose my internet connection?
- When your Internet connection is reestablished, you may return to the course and begin at the last page you had accessed at the time your connection was lost.
- Do I need to be a computer expert to navigate through the course?
- No. This course is extremely easy to navigate, with clear instructions and easy access for return visits until completion.
